Presented by Landlocked Music Landlocked Music DocuSunday Vol.1: 'Heavenly Pop Hits - The Flying Nun Story'
To tie in with the amazing show with THE CLEAN on Sunday August 17th, Landlocked Music is presenting a free screening of Heavenly Pop Hits - The Flying Nun Story at the Bishop on Sunday August 10th. This documentary tells the story of the legendary New Zealand-based Flying Nun music label up to its 21st birthday in 2007. The label became associated with the 'Dunedin Sound': a catch-all term for a sprawl of DIY, post-punk, warped, jangly guitar-pop. The bands featured on their roster, including The Clean, The Bats, The Verlaines and The Chills influenced countless future indie bands such as Pavement, Guided By Voices and Jay Reatard. The Guardian UK: "[it's] as if being on the other side of the world meant the music was played upside down". Features interviews with key players, the spats and the dark-but-breezy glory. Sunday August 10th at 8pm for FREE!
