We want to introduce you to two very special men.
Werner Herzog's "God's Angry Man" profiles Dr. Gene Scott, a famous televangelist who would throw giant tantrums and lecture his audience about the importance of sending him money, as well as berating the FCC, personified here as a pile of weird toy monkeys.
The highlight of the film is when he gives his TV audience the "silent treatment" and just sits and stares at the camera until they send him enough money.
Complete with a bizarre gospel band and drenched in Herzog's sympathy for madness, this short film (only 46 minutes) is a total classic.
BONUS FEATURE:
The Dancing Outlaw (1991)
Part of a documentary series for PBS called "Different Drummer", this episode focuses on Jesco White, the Last of the Mountain Dancers. In only 29 minutes, we learn all about Jesco's father, his Elvis obsession, huffing glue, how to cook eggs, and exactly what he'll do to recover his "costly sunglasses".
You may know of Jesco from his later stardom, stemming from this genuine documentary, in reality TV and even appearing on Rosanne. While "rednecksploitation" has been overtaking television in the last decade, this was from a simpler time when we could all enjoy one man's strange and troubled life without using his own personal tragedy to make a fortune.
We'll show these films, along with our pre-show reel, starting at 8:30. As always, we'll have free candy, give away a prize to a lucky and deserving winner, I'll catch you up to date on how Gene Scott's life got even stranger after Herzog's film and how Rosanne paid to get Jesco's swastika tattoos covered up. (He honestly had no idea what they meant).
